One way we do this is by being Waste Wise and WaterWise school ensuring that we are a Sustainable school that rethinks the products we purchase, reduce the amount of waste we create and water we use, reuse as much as possible, recycle or compost whatever we can and dispose of waste responsibly if all else fails. We have a garden dedicated to using the waste generated to grow a variety of plants including food crops that can be used by the school community.
We have a dedicated student group called GEKOES (Grovelands Educating Kids On Enviornmental Sustainability). The GEKOES program is intended to get students involved in sustainable initiatives around the school. We have extended this program from a small group of senior grade students to a model that includes the whole school. Initiatives that GEKOES are involved with include but are not limited to Wastewise, Waterwise, energy efficiency initiatives and kitchen garden programs.
